Egypt/Cementon: Knights plan chicken dinner

Knights of Columbus Council 4050 will be accepting orders for takeout chicken dinners through Sept. 12. The dinners, which consist of half of a chicken, baked potato, roll and butter, can be picked up 4-6 p.m. Sept. 14 in the parking lot of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 4102 Main St., Egypt.

Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, 5209 Springmill Road, is planning a number of events this month.

The VFW will host concerts by Still Kick’n Sept. 13, Harlan/Tucker Band Sept. 21 and the Castaway Band Sept. 27. All concerts begin 7 p.m.

Concert admission is free for members, but there is a cost for guests.

Join your friends for cake and camaraderie at the U.S. Air Force birthday celebration 7 p.m. Sept. 18.

The VFW has WineFest 2024 scheduled for noon-4 p.m. Sept. 22. The event, which will be held rain or shine, will include musical entertainment by Cross Country Lines and beverages from local wineries, meaderies and cider makers. Local organizations and businesses will have stands.

Whitehall Lions Club’s 49th annual sweepstakes fundraiser continues. A donation is requested, but not required, for the drawing, set for Sept. 16.

Registration for Egypt Memorial Park fall 2024 softball and T-ball ends Sept. 18. The season is through Oct. 31.

Egypt park’s T-ball program is for boys and girls ages 4.5 to 6. Softball is for ages 5-18.

The youth group of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4331 Main St., Egypt, is holding a hoagie and sandwich fundraiser. Delivery will be Oct. 13.

Hokendauqua Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a fly fishing basics clinic for women 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 21 at Egypt Fire Company No. 1, 4099 Kuhn Lane. The clinic is free and limited to 15 participants.

This short introduction to fly fishing will cover topics such as equipment needed, natural trout food, hand-tied flies, necessary knots and fly casting. All equipment will be provided.

Bottled water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and doughnuts will be available.

This year’s Whitehall Haunted Parkway, hosted by the township’s fire department, will begin Sept. 27 and continues every Friday and Saturday throughout October at 4689 S. Church St., Egypt.

There is a cost (cash only), but children under age 6 are admitted for free.

The event will not be held during inclement weather.

All proceeds benefit Whitehall Fire Department.

The Haunted Parkway trick or treat will be held 2-5 p.m. Oct. 5.

The fire department is seeking donations for a basket raffle to be held during trick or treat. Basket donations are needed by Oct. 1.

A reunion of seven decades of Egypt friends and neighbors is set for 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 28 at Egypt Memorial Park, Hillcrest Lane and Curt Simmons Drive. Highlights include a welcome ceremony featuring the Whitehall High School band noon; buffet luncheon and presentation by Whitehall Historical Preservation Society starting 1:15 p.m.; group photos 3:30 p.m.; a cake walk 4 p.m.; and desserts and coffee 4:30 p.m.

A deejay will be playing tunes from the decades. Games, dancing and prizes are also part of the day.

There is a cost. Children ages 4 and younger attend for free.

Shepherd of the Hills youth group is once again conducting a clothing drive. Members are accepting new or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, belts, purses, bed and bath linens and stuffed animals. The group cannot accept quilts, comforters, pillows or blankets. Shoes must be bagged separately.

Drop off your items in the enclosed porch in the rear of the church.
