Coplay: Order ziti dinners by Sept. 13

Orders are due by Sept. 13 for the baked ziti pickup dinner at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St. The menu includes baked ziti, salad, applesauce, roll and dessert. Pickup is 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 21.

Freewill donations will be gratefully accepted.

The Ironton Rail Trail 15th pediatric cancer 10-K run/5-K walk and kids fun run is set for Sept. 14, starting 8 a.m., at Saylor Park, North Second Street.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., is holding its annual Oktoberfest Sept. 15. The opening parade will begin 2:30 p.m.

The event will include entertainment by the Auerhahn Schuhplattler Dancers, an Oktoberfest singalong, the button box committee and more. Joe Kroboth will perform 3-7 p.m.

Wear your German attire and enjoy imported beer and authentic German food.

The event is open to the public. There is a cost.

Coplay aerobics is planning a memorial class to honor the late Donna DeLucia, set for 8:45-9:45 a.m. Sept. 21. DeLucia was the instructor for more than 25 years. She died in 2022 of cancer.

All money raised that day will be donated to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Join others to honor DeLucia and help the fight against cancer.

Coplay Garden Club will next meet 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Paul Boyle, public works director, reminds residents garbage cans in excess of 30 gallons will not be collected.

If you have large items, call the borough office at 610-262-6088 to schedule pickups of items such as sofas, plastic-encased mattresses, chairs, dressers, etc. There is a limit of two per year at no charge.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month.

If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

If your child or grandchild is a resident of Coplay, graduated from high school this year and is attending college, university, trade school or the police academy, consider applying for a Coplay Scholarship Fund scholarship.

Two $5,000 scholarship will be awarded in November. To get an application, send an email to billleiner@aol.com.

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

Coplay Athletic Club is seeking new and renewed memberships. A gym membership costs $90 per year and $80 for renewals.

The gym is located on the second floor of the municipal building.

Looking for an inexpensive but great workout? Aerobic exercise is held 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. Bring dumbbells, a towel and a mat to enhance your workout.

There is a small cost.

Coplay Social Hall, the former fire department social hall, is available for rent.

Coplay pavilion rentals are also available through Oct. 31.

Explorer Post 101’s mission is to promote interest in model railroading to 12- to 21-year-olds. Meetings are held 7-9 p.m. Thursdays on the second floor of the municipal building.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has an special mailbox in front of the Post at 134 S. Second St. Worn-out American flags can be deposited into the mailbox for the Post to properly destroy them.
