GARDEN CLUB MEETING: The Bethlehem Garden Club is hosting a presentation on “How is Climate Change Affecting Your Landscape,” presented by Randy Fey, Thursday, Sept. 19 at Advent Moravian Church, 3730 Jacksonville Road, Bethlehem. STEEL LOCOMOTIVE: Hands-on train engineer experience on a Bethlehem Steel restored narrow gauge locomotive. IRON ART CASTING: Evolution Art Studios artist Jay Elias, a former U.S. Marine who served in the Gulf War, introduces the process to create three-dimensional sculptural forms in cast iron. WOMEN IN STEEL: Exhibition investigating how four artists use steel to influence the creation of various artworks. Sept. 20 to Jan. 31. Free. Artist Katie Hovencamp, guest curator, earned a BFA from Arizona State University in 2009 and an MFA from Pennsylvania State University in 2014. Her work was shown in exhibitions within the U.S., Europe, and Asia. She taught at the Edna Vihel Center for the Arts, Totts Gap Art Institute, Pennsylvania State and Moravian universities, and Harrisburg Area Community, Keystone, Cedar Crest and Northampton Community Colleges. TURNING POINT LUNCHEON: Courageous Action 2024 luncheon Sept. 20. The keynote speaker is Griselda Rodríguez-Solomon, Ph.D. (Dr. G.), mother, wife and professor at the Department of Anthropology, Gender Studies and International Studies, City College of New York. ‘ROOTED’ FILM: Partnering with the Southside Film Institute and led by a team of regional artists – Doug Roysdon, Mock Turtle Marionette Theatre; Dave Fry, Godfrey Daniels Folk Music Club; Bridget George, Bach Choir of Bethlehem and Touchstone Theatre; and Bill George, Touchstone Theatre – filmmaker Aidan Gilrain McKenna has begun producing an approximately 90-minute documentary drawing from over 200 hours of interviews, new and archival video, music and photos that will distill and celebrate the Bethlehem story of a community transformed by art, of artists transformed by a community.

The film’s budget is expected to be approximately $50,000, and a public campaign for donations will begin this fall.

Apple Days: Our valued volunteers, vendors and visitors are invited to return to Burnside Plantation for the annual Apple Days festivities. There is a new historic area with living history demonstrations and hands-on activities for all ages. The summer kitchen features Colonial cooking demonstrations. There will be docent-led tours of the 1748/1818 farmhouse, a children’s hay bale maze, shopping with local vendors, sweet treats from Lehigh Valley bakeries, apples and apple goodies for sale, live music, pony rides, farm animals and more. Apple Dessert Baking Contest (two categories: kids ages 15 and younger and ages 16 and older), Banko Beverage Apple Days Tavern features a curated selection of seasonal craft beverages. Tasting tickets are available or purchase full size pours.

Parking is available next to the grounds on the east side of Monocacy Creek at the Moravian University lot at W. 1150 Mauch Chunk Road, a short walk from the festival grounds. Shuttle service is available from Nitschmann MS, 1002 W. Union Boulevard, with shuttles on loop trips available to Burnside Plantation. Dogs are permitted at the festival, but NOT permitted on the shuttles.
