Soccer teams get season started

Aug. 27 marked the first day of high school soccer season in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play for Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty.

In girls matches, Bethlehem Catholic were the lone winners with a 2-0 victory over Pleasant Valley while Freedom fell to Parkland, 2-0, and Liberty fell to Easton, 7-1.

In boys matches, Bethlehem Catholic lost to Pleasant Valley, 7-0, Freedom fell to Parkland in overtime, 2-1, and Liberty lost to Easton, 2-0.

Pleasant Valley’s boys scored on the Golden Hawks in the first three minutes on a goal by Davis Halla.

In the 30th minute, Becahi made three attempts to score, including a header off a corner kick, but Pleasant Valley goalie Zachary Prator dove to his left to make the save.

Aiden Granda scored the Bears’ second goal, but a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining in the first half was saved by Becahi goalie Evan Schultz who had 8 saves in the match.

After Pleasant Valley scored twice more in the second half, Becahi made a nice try to find the back of the net, but Prator reached up for the save.

The Hawks are trying to find their footing this season under new head coach Roberto Carrizo, and will host East Stroudsburg North on Sept. 4.
