Reilly enjoying his time as Catty’s new quarterback

Aiden Reilly has been enjoying the moment.

Catasauqua’s sophomore quarterback is off to solid start, helping the Rough Riders get off to a 2-0 start this season in his first full season as a starter.

In a recent 34-14 victory over Wilson, Reilly completed 11 of 16 passes for 185 with a pair of touchdowns, and he also rushed for 63 yards with a score.

Reilly is developing into one of the area’s best dual-threat signal callers with his abilities.

First-year head coach Joe Henrich has been very appreciative.

“I continue to be proud of Aiden and his growth,” noted Henrich. “He is a smart player with the ability to run and throw. Like any young quarterback, there are a few plays I am sure he would like back, but he is getting better every day. He is very coachable and handles the pressure of being the offensive leader.”

Since he was 10-years-old, Reilly has been playing quarterback, a position he has only played in his career.

“I never really played any other position throughout my football career,” said Reilly. “It helps a lot because I’m used to the position and love playing the position.”

Over the years, Reilly hasn’t focused on personal highlights, but instead how he can help his team win a game. However, his first varsity start two weeks ago will stay with him. Reilly completed 12 of 15 passes for 315 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

“I really don’t focus on highlights because at the end of the day, we win as a team and lose as a team,” he stressed. “But if I had to pick a highlight, it would be my first varsity start. It was very exciting and a very good team win to start my high school football career as well.”

Along the way, there have been some hurdles to jump.

“The biggest adjustment has been dealing with a new offense, but I do like the new offense because it fits our team well with our athleticism. Our offensive line has been fantastic so far, and things are really starting to come together as well as us players getting to trust the coaches a lot more being that we didn’t know them four months ago.”

Heading into this week’s game at winless Palisades (0-2), Reilly wants to keep riding the wave.

“Our season is going great,” he beamed. “We have some momentum heading into Palisades, and that is huge.”
