Township’s annual park event celebrates community

On Aug. 27, Hanover Township, Lehigh County, held its fourth annual Community Night at Canal Park, 1960 Dauphin St. It was a fun evening for all ages, with food, refreshments, ice cream, information tables and entertainment.

The event had excellent weather, and the entertainment was provided by Underground Rainbows, Blossom the Clown making balloon animals for kids, a mining stand for kids to try their luck panning for gems, a petting zoo and pony rides. There was also a basket raffle.

The event organizers promised “fun for the whole family.”

Representatives from Lehigh Valley International Airport, Hanleco Fire Department, Hanleco Public Works Department, Northampton Regional EMS, state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, and state Sen. Nick Miller, D-14th, were in attendance. Township council Chairman Bruce Paulus was on hand as a volunteer. These elected officials and community organizations were there to answer any questions attendees had about what they provide.

Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor representatives had an information table set up with highly regarded trail historian Martha Capwell Fox and Director of Trails and Conservation of the D&L Elizabeth Rosencrans. Rosencrans also doubles up, when necessary, as the trails mascot mule, Della.

Malika Mathis, owner and operator of Mother Nature Minerals LLC, offered an assortment of soy eco-friendly crystal candles, ethical crystal jewelry and natural ethical crystals for sale. Mathis said her products are all handmade, eco-friendly, high quality and luxurious.
