Farmers and food banks address food insecurity

Connecting farms and food banks will be the focus of a panel discussion 5-7 p.m. Sept. 4 at Second Harvest Food Bank, 6969 Silver Crest Road, Nazareth.

Attendees will learn about how charitable food systems and the agricultural community work together to address food insecurity. Attendees will learn about state and federal programs that build relationships between farmers and food banks, like the Local Food Purchase Assistance program and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System.

Farmers and representatives from Second Harvest Food Bank, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Flint Hill Farm and Twin Maple Farms will share their experiences.

A tour of the food bank also will be offered.
