Man was struck while crossing the tracks, police say

The man struck by a train Aug. 25 in Alburtis borough was crossing the tracks at the time of the accident, police confirmed.

In an email to The Press, Alburtis Borough Chief of Police Tony Alsleben confirmed Angel Luis Rivera Jr., 26, of Alburtis, was crossing the train tracks in the area of North Main Street and West Penn Avenue when he was struck by a train.

“Yes, the victim was attempting to cross the tracks and was waiting for an eastbound train to clear the crossing. He apparently did not see the westbound train coming and was struck,” Alsleben said by email.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the accident scene by First Deputy Coroner Miles Wildey, according to a news release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center dated Aug. 26.

The manner of death was determined to be an accident.

The accident happened at approximately 9:50 a.m.

As of Aug. 27, the investigation was described by Alsleben as ongoing.
