James J. McConnell Esq., 87, formerly of Allentown, died on Aug. 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in his Macungie home.
He and his wife, Lois E. (Herald) McConnell, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in February.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Ruth E. (Dentith) McConnell.
A 1954 graduate of Allentown High School, and a 1958 graduate of Muhlenberg College, he received his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law.
He began his career as a lawyer with Snyder, Doll and Schantz before starting his own private practice.
A lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard, he served as the captain of the Port of New York.
He was a member of The Church of St. Ann, Emmaus.
He was a life member of Lehman Lake Rod and Gun Club.
He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, solving crossword puzzles, fishing, old movies and had a love of classical music.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kathryn R. and her husband, Thomas D. Steinmetz, of North Wales; and grandsons Daniel and James.
He was predeceased by his brother Joey McConnell.
A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Sept. 7 in Stephens Funeral Home Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. Friends and family may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lehman Lake Rod and Gun Club, 318 Raspberry Run Road, Bushkill, PA 18324.
