The Salisbury High School boys basketball team had another good outing during the summer offseason, this time at the Awesome Fest Throwdown, the final major summer tournament, held at Cedar Beach in Allentown during the last weekend in July.
The Falcons went undefeated in pool play, winning both of their games in pool play to advance to the playoff format. But they were downed in the quarterfinal round to end the run.
That capped off a very successful summer for Salisbury, which showed out well at the other major tournament in the Bash at the Beach tournament in June and also won the Small School Division championship back in July.
“It was a really great summer for the guys and I’m proud of how they went out and competed,” said head coach Jason Weaver. “Coming into the offseason we knew we’d have some growing pains with some inexperience and younger guys after who we graduated. But they really impressed me and took to coaching and learned really quickly.”
The Falcons had a smaller division with only two other teams, compared to most other divisions that had three others.
They defeated Octorara in the opening game and then beat Fleetwood to advance to the playoff format. Salisbury’s tournament ended with a quarterfinal round defeat to Lincoln Leadership.
“I thought the guys played well all weekend,” Weaver said. “We just met up with a better team that game.”
Salisbury will now focus its attention to the regular season this winter.
