Richard L. Fahringer

former Whitehall Township commissioner

Richard “Dick” L. Fahringer, 85, of Whitehall, died Aug. 21, 2024. He was the husband of Suzann (Kratzer) Fahringer for 65 years.

Born in Stiles, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Theresa Fahringer.

He was a 1957 graduate of Whitehall High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, excelling in track and field.

He worked as a bank teller right out of high school. He spent the majority of his career in construction and facilities management and retired in 2004 from Lucent Technologies.

He dedicated 12 years to serving as a Whitehall Township commissioner, many of those years as president, and 20 years on the Whitehall Township Water Authority. He worked tirelessly for the approval of the Ironton Rail Trail. He was deeply involved in the Fullerton Athletic Association, where he served as president and was a PIAA football official for more than two decades.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Ricky and wife Patty of Coopersburg, Danny and wife Donna of Whitehall and Timmy and wife Stacey of Barnegat, N.J.; six grandchildren, Andy, Alyssa, Rachel, Hannah, Kate and Ava; and six great-grandchildren, Graham, Stella, Elaine, Gabriel, Grady and Zoe.

Contributions may be made to the Ironton Rail Trail, 3219 MacArthur Road, Whitehall, 18052.

Arrangements were made by Gilbert Funeral Home, Whitehall.
