Attorney James J. McConnell

Attorney James J. McConnell, 87, of Macungie, formerly of Allentown, died Aug. 17, 2024, in his home and surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lois E. (Herald) McConnell. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last February. Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Ruth E. (Dentith) McConnell.

He was a graduate of Allentown High School, Class of 1954; Muhlenberg College, Class of 1958 and received his law degree from the Dickinson School of Law.

He began his career as a lawyer with Snyder, Doll and Schantz before starting his own private practice.

He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Coast Guard serving as the captain of the Port of New York.

He was a member of The Church of St. Ann, Emmaus.

He was a life member of the Lehman Lake Rod and Gun Club.

He enjoyed meeting friends for coffee, solving crossword puzzles, fishing, old movies and had a love of classical music.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Kathryn R. and her husband, Thomas D. Steinmetz, of North Wales; grandsons, Daniel and James. He was predeceased by a brother, Joey.

A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Sept. 7 in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. Friends and family may call 10-11 a.m. Sept. 7 at the funeral home.
