Carolyn Guss Burke, 90, died at home on August 16, 2024. She lived with multiple myeloma for more thanr 10 years. Born in Fountain Hill, she was a daughter of the late Edwin C. and the late Anna M. (Charney) Guss. She was the wife of Thomas J. Burke for 67 years.
She was a 1952 Fountain Hill H.S. where she played varsity basketball. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Luke’s School of Nursing.
She was a registered nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital and supervisor at Gracedale Nursing Home for many years. She was an advocate for children with special needs.
She played golf and attend several major championships including the U.S. and the British Open events. She is survived by her three daughters, Jane Cassidy (Robert), Mary Conner (Timothy) and Kathy Burke. She is survived by grandchildren Brian Cassidy (Amanda), Kate Cassidy (Don Loughney), Sean Cassidy (Heather Hunter-Nickels), Erin Conner, great-granddaughters Maya, Aspen, Brea, June, sister-in-law, Patricia Burke, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Jean Guss Pyne; and two brothers-in-law, Ken Pyne and John T. Burke.
