CHARTER ARTS EVENTS: The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts (Charter Arts) Visual Arts Department presents a special exhibition featuring the work of Arta Brito and Nate Devarie in the school’s Corpora Gallery Sept 6 to Oct. 11. Both artists are alumni of the school.

The exhibit will be open to the public for two free receptions Sept. 6 and Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. as part of the Southside Arts Districts’ First Friday celebrations. Private viewing appointments can be made by calling 610-868-2971. For more information, visit the school website, CharterArts.org.

Charter Arts’ Theatre Department presents a fall season of dynamic original plays The season kicks off with a production of “The Oscars: A Conversation Among Friends” by John Thompson, Sept. 6 to 8.

Oscar Wilde, a famously complex man, invites you into an evening of conversation between five different versions of himself, the young poet, the mature storyteller, the jaded playwright, the sorrowful prisoner and the weary exile. The conversational jousting between the Oscars brings alive the arc of Wilde’s life and follows his search for a way to recover himself as the artist of his own life.

This production is directed by Kelly Minner-Bickert and features a cast that includes students, alumni and community artists. Evening performances Sept. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. Matinee Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. Tickets available at CharterArts.org.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE: Registration for the 2024 Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off event will open today, Aug. 28, at 8 a.m. This event is only for Northampton County residents; online preregistration is required. County residents may sign up for one appointment per household. Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration often reaches capacity quickly, so residents are encouraged to register promptly and open an account with Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.com) before registration begins. A link to the event will be posted on the Northampton County Homepage.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event will be held Sept. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northampton Community College (3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem) and will be held rain or shine. For the safety of staff, you must enter from the campus’s main entrance on Green Pond Road.

CIVIL WAR ROUNDTABLE: New season begins Sept. 3. “We’re the Boys Who Rode Around McClellan (Chambersburg 1862).” For the second time in one year, General J.E.B. Stuart rode around General George McClellan’s army.
