GUEST VIEW I Roll out to the library
We’ll be celebrating National Library Card Sign-up Month all of September at Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall.
Transformers, especially Optimus Prime, inspire this year’s theme “Libraries: More Than Meets the Eye ... Roll Out with a Library Card!”
Try your luck at Transformers bingo from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 14 for all ages.
Have fun and get a chance to win themed prizes.
Find the library at various outdoor venues such as movie night at Grange Park 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 13; Family Safety Day at Fernwood Park from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14; and the Fall Festival at Jordan Greenway Trail 3-9 p.m. on Sept. 28.
Throughout September, enter prize raffles when you visit the library and get or renew a library card.
Keep the Summer Reading Club motivation going by visiting the library after school starts.
Thank you to the 843 readers who signed up this summer.
Become familiar with PA Forward, a statewide initiative that shows the importance of libraries.
Libraries have moved far beyond just being book repositories. They’re agile institutions serving real-life needs.
Libraries are the key to powering progress and elevating the quality of life in Pennsylvania by fueling the types of knowledge essential to success: basic literacy, information literacy, civic and social literacy, health literacy, and financial literacy.
But don’t just take our word for it!
Look at the variety of physical and virtual materials available and try one of our many events.
From story times to the Rebel Girls Club to the Teen Advisory Board to the Senior Coffee Club, there is something for everyone.
You will see why the library has maintained its Gold Star status.
Check out the events on the web calendar at parklandlibrary.org/calendar.
September also sees the return of 1-2-3 Play with Me Parent-Child workshops for toddlers and their caregivers 9:30 a.m. Friday mornings.
Parkland Community Library is also a designated Family Place Library.
Family Place Libraries transform libraries into community centers for early literacy, parent education, and family support.
Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter.
Make your transition easier by using a free card with many rewards.
