Books enthrall kids and pups at Parkland Library program

By MICHAEL HIRSCH

Special to The Press

On the first Tuesday of every month at the Parkland Community Library, South Whitehall, there is a special, heartwarming event called “Read to the Pups.”

Kids ages 4-11 are invited to bring a favorite book and practice reading to the patient and gentle Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs.

Each youngster has at least 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time.

Rhonda Heier was there with, Lexie, her 2-year-old pit bull/Staffordshire mix Therapy Dog on Aug. 6.

Lexie lives with Rhonda and her husband, Kevin.

Kayla Tivner, teen library assistant, was on hand to help out.

Zoey Hada read “All About Sharks,” by Jim Arnosky to Lexie.

“Dun dun, dun dun, dun dun,” Zoey’s brother, Zayden, kept saying as his sister read the book.

Their father, Subin, said Zayden was repeating the theme from “Jaws.”

Zayden was asked if he saw the film.

Zayden replied he had.
