Moore Township and the Northampton Area Public Library have partnered to bring nature and summer reading together with the StoryWalk project. Many families have discovered this fun way to spend time together outdoors while reading.
The walking trail starts behind the pavilion at the Moore Township Recreation Center, 635 English Road. Story boards, with a new part of the story, including illustrations, are set up approximately every 10 feet along the trail. There are also prompts to help adults engage the child/children.
The first book featured was “Little Owl’s Day” by Divya Srinivasan. Little Owl experiences many new things before he meets up with his friend Bear. The two share their favorite experiences.
The next book and current feature is “Tidy” by Emily Gravett. Pete the Badger gets carried away trying to keep the forest neat and tidy.
The StoryWalk project was created and trademarked by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt. She collaborated with the Kellog-Hubbard Library to develop this program. Funding is provided by the Family Engagement Grant, managed by the Federal Library Service and Technology Act and made possible by the Museum and Library Services. It is administrated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
