North Catasauqua: Office assistant applications due by Aug. 16 at borough hall
The borough is now hiring a part-time office assistant.
This person will perform diversified duties such as customer service, payables, filing, answering the phone, coordination of the rental and home sale inspection processes and various additional office duties as needed and/or requested.
Qualified candidates must be able to adapt and learn new tasks quickly. Candidates will need a high school diploma, excellent written and verbal skills, strong attention to detail, computer and internet skills and experience using office equipment. The pay rate is $18 an hour.
The borough office is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and this position will be up to 20 hours per week. Applications can be picked up at the borough office. Applications with attached resumes are due by 4 p.m. Aug. 16.

St. Mary’s Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, will hold its Sizzlin’ Summer cash bingo Aug. 18. The kitchen and doors open 11:30 a.m., and bingo begins 1 p.m.
There will be 15 games, six specials and a jackpot round. Additional game sheets and specials will be available for purchase. Bring your own daubers but no hard boards.
The kitchen will be selling snacks, bingo favorites and beverages such as soda, water and iced tea. Other than BYOB, no outside food or beverages are permitted.

The borough summer concert series continues with two performances Aug. 24 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St. Third Hand Band performs 4-6 p.m., and Common Bond will take the stage 7-10 p.m.
There will be various food trucks at the park selling food and soft drinks. The food trucks include Geaker’s Taco, Greek Street, Jenny’s Jump Junction and the Udder Bar. Grove Street Pub will have an assortment of beverages available in its parking lot.
Bring your lawn chair and enjoy rock and dance hits. This will be the last summer concert of the season.

Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop, 113 Bridge St., is holding a back-to-school half-price sale on items now through Aug. 31.
The shop’s regular hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The shop accepts donations of good, used, clean clothing, household items and toys during regular store hours. Proceeds from the shop are returned to the community through contributions that support youth and adult programs and services. National Thrift Shop Day is Aug. 17.

North Catasauqua Police Department would like to make residents aware a Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program seminar is set for 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 7 at Suburban North Family YMCA, 880 Walnut St., Catasauqua.
Participants will be provided with an overview on the legalities and criminal law pertaining to the transportation, packaging and consumption of medical marijuana. A drug recognition expert will discuss some of the benefits from procuring medical marijuana from a dispensary and how to apply for a medical marijuana card.

State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, is making residents aware a senior expo will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 12 at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 675 Blue Mountain Drive, Cherryville.
Exhibitors from state and local agencies, businesses and other organizations will be on hand to provide information and answer questions important to senior citizens. Free health screenings, including vision, balance and blood pressure, will be offered. Flu shots will be available pending manufacturing.
CarFit, an educational program for seniors to learn how well their personal vehicles “fit” them, will also be on hand. To register for CarFit, contact Mildred Ozoa at 610-865-7083.
The expo is free to attend, and light refreshments will be available.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will celebrate Oktoberfest Sept. 21. The event will be held rain or shine.
There will be a German-themed Mass with Robbie Lawrence 4 p.m. Robbie Lawrence and the Steelworkers band performs 5-9 p.m.
The church is in search of vendors for the outdoor craft, vendor and flea market, which will occur 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There is a cost, and each vendor brings their own tables and/or canopies. The church will be selling German-themed food and drinks, so no food vendors need apply.

Catasauqua Post Office, 205 Bridge St., is temporarily closed following a partial collapse of the ceiling in the lobby.
The post office will remain closed until further notice while the necessary repairs are made. Residents are advised to use the post office in Whitehall or Coplay.

The North Catasauqua and Catasauqua Halloween parade committee is making preparations for this year’s event. Anyone interested in volunteering on the parade committee or the parade itself should contact the borough office.

The Willowbrook Road bridge remains closed for continuing construction. Northampton County has given a tentative reopening date of mid-October.
Northampton County Public Works has given a summary of the bridge project to include the existing metal grate bridge will be replaced with a concrete box-beam bridge with a concrete deck. The new bridge will feature 11-foot travel lanes in each direction with a 2-foot shoulder on each side.
During the bridge replacement, Willowbrook Road will be closed in the area immediately adjacent to the bridge with a full detour plan in place. The posted detour will use Savage Road, Route 329, Weaversville Road, Route 987 and Race Street.

Veteran’s assistance is available the first Thursday of the month at one of Mako’s district offices. The veterans outreach program is available 10 a.m.-2 p.m. by appointment only at the Northampton or Slatington offices on alternating months.
A service member from the American Legion is available to meet with local veterans and assist them with issues they may be having accessing benefits and services from the U.S. Veterans Administration.
