East Allen supervisors discuss township agricultural spaces
At the July 11 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board discussed resolution 2024-18 regarding an agricultural security area at 7435 Tanglewood Road.
Agricultural security areas are a tool for protecting farmland from nonagricultural uses. These security areas are re-evaluated every seven years.
New parcels of farmland may be added to an established agricultural security area at any time. An agricultural security area may include nonadjacent farmland parcels of at least 10 acres or be able to produce $2,000 annually from the sale of agricultural products.
In other business, the board considered a request for a special sewer capacity study and approved the ratification of general fund checks 2990-3080, totaling $270,029.88.
The board also considered an extension of the Farmhouse Village major and minor subdivisions.
There was a discussion about fire apparatus acquisitions, including a potential tanker truck.
At the July 25 East Allen Board of Supervisors meeting, supervisors held a lengthy discussion about warehouse logistic centers. The discussion was a result of planning commission recommendations on zoning issues involving distribution centers, known colloquially as warehouses. It was expected the board would potentially change some zoning requirements to be voted on and advertised at the Aug. 8 supervisors meeting.
Supervisors approved the recommendation to hire Environmental Planning and Design of Pittsburgh to implement the River Central Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan.
The board approved the acceptance of a change order for the 2024 road program for $107,479, as requested by Bracalente Construction.
The board approved the release of financial security from regulated asbestos-containing material phase 2, in the amount of $516,910.63. Another recommendation to release financial security from regulated asbestos-containing material phase 3, in the amount of $1,030,948.50 was approved.
Supervisors discussed a recommendation to move forward with the purchase of a 2024 Kenworth tanker truck at a cost of $448,914. It was noted the firetruck has more hose capacity.
