LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

GUEST VIEW Treasure at your library

Don’t let the summer end without exploring the great local treasure that is your library.

By the end of July, 742 readers of all ages have signed up for this year’s Adventure Begins at Your Library Summer Reading Club at Parkland Community Library.

Congratulations to those who completed 10 hours or more of reading.

On Aug. 5, Summer Reading Club raffle winners were announced for kid and teen readers.

Join us for a drop-in Pirate Adventure party 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 10.

There will be a Pirate Ship Bounce house for children outside, play for babies inside, and a Land Ho! terrarium craft for teens and adults while supplies last. Feel free to dress like a pirate.

There will be prize raffles and ice pops, too!

Adult Summer Reading Club raffle winners will be announced at the closing party.

Get ready for the Friends of PCL annual used book sale at Jordan Lutheran Church, Snowdrift Road, Orefield.

Sale dates are as follows: 4-6 p.m. Aug. 15 for a $15 entry fee, or free entry for Friends of the Library; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 16 with free entry; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 with free entry; and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18 for bag sale day at $10 per bag.

The Friends Book Shop in the library is now open more hours with the addition of Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

Catch us at the South Whitehall Township outdoor movie night on Aug. 16 at Springhouse West Park. The fun starts 7 p.m.

Check out the new museum passes available, including Philadelphia Magic Gardens, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, Penn Museum, and soon-to-come African American Museum (Philly), Academy of Natural Sciences, and National Liberty Museum.

These are free for Parkland residents with their library card.

The library will be closed for Labor Day Weekend Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.

Enjoy the holiday.
