Train collision results in a fatality

A pedestrian died July 31 after being struck by a train along South Third Street in Emmaus, according to a news release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensics Center.

According to authorities, Teresa G. Bell, 68, of Emmaus, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 200 block of South Third Street.

The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries due to a collision with a train.

Bell was described as a pedestrian struck by a train at approximately 1:11 p.m. July 31.

“Preliminarily, Ms. Bell was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when she was struck,” according to the news release dated July 31.

The Emmaus Police Department and the Norfolk Southern Police Department are among agencies investigating the incident.

Norfolk Southern Railway is a freight railroad operating in the eastern U.S., including Pennsylvania.

The company has its headquarters in Georgia.
