Lynyrd Skynyrd: “Celebrating 50 Years”; Six Gun Sally, Christine Havrilla, 7 p.m. Aug. 7, Wind Creek Steel Stage at PNC Plaza. Gates open: 6 p.m. Lynyrd Skynyrd is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the band’s critically-acclaimed debut album, “Pronounced ‘Lĕh-’nérd ‘Skin-’nérd” (1973). The band, founded in 1973, in Jacksonville, Fla., included former members Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Ed King, Billy Powell, Bob Burns and Leon Wilkeson. The band’s hits include “Free Bird,” from the debut album, and “Sweet Home Alabama,” from the band’s second album, “Second Helping”’ (1974). The band, a progenitor of Southern Rock, was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. The Lynyrd Skynyrd lineup now is: Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Damon Johnson, Mark Matejka, Michael Cartellone, Keith Christopher, Peter Keys, Carol Chase and Stacy Michelle. Says Johnny Van Zant, “It’s about the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and what it stands for, what the fans are all about.”
