Learn about Scouting at Macungie Fun Day Aug. 18

Volunteers are needed to help with events at Macungie Memorial Park. The park is self-supporting and depends on events and donations to operate. Refreshment stand help is needed for upcoming park events. Volunteers do not need to be Macungie residents. For more information, call the park office at 610-966-4289.
Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., will host its free takeout community meal 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 9. Follow the signs for pickup.
Grace Lutheran Church holds its weekly free food distribution program 2-4 p.m. Aug. 7, 14, 21 and 28 for East Penn School District residents. Signs will be posted with directions for parking and pickup.
The Macungie Farmers Market is open 4-7 p.m. every Thursday on Lumber Street, just off Main Street, Macungie.
There will be Food Trucks in the Park! events 5-8 p.m. Aug. 14 and 28 and Sept. 4 and 18 at Macungie Memorial Park.
The 48th annual Collectors Car Show and Flea Market presented by the First Pennsylvania Mustang Club will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11, rain or shine, at Macungie Memorial Park. All makes, models and years are welcome.
There will be a cruise night 3 p.m. Aug. 17 at Macungie Memorial Park. Vehicles will start arriving 2 p.m. and the DJ starts 4 p.m. Refreshments are available. For more information, call 610-966-4289.
The Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trails Council will host Macungie Fun Day noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at Macungie Memorial Park. There will be fun activities, food trucks and opportunities to learn about Scouting.
The Alburtis seniors will meet noon Aug. 21 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.
The 45th annual Wheels of Time Rod and Custom Jamboree will be held Aug. 23-25 at Macungie Memorial Park. The event helps support local charities and the scholarship program for local Vo-Tech automotive technology graduates. Over 1,500 custom cars and street rods will be on display.
Special features this year include TV show cars Butch Patrick and The Munster Koach and Dragula as well as The Flying Fuzz; bands Ricky Smith & the Crush 7 p.m. Aug. 23 and Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods 6:30 p.m. Aug. 24. Activities include a huge flea market, refreshments, bingo, a basket auction and musical entertainment. There will also be kids’ activities such as crafts and games. The show opens 7 a.m. each day and continues until sundown. Musical entertainment continues until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Donations of food items for local food banks will be accepted.
The Macungie pool is open noon to 8 p.m. weekdays; weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Toddler time is 11 a.m. to noon weekdays. Swim lessons are available. Pool visitors must park outside the park grounds during the “Wheels of Time” car show Aug. 22-25. The pool will close for the season Sept. 2. More information is available at www.MacungiePark.com.
There will be a youth vendor craft fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.
Lower Lehigh AARP will not meet in August. Their next meeting will be noon Sept. 5 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.
The Macungie Institute will continue to offer free weekly Pinochle and Mahjong Wednesdays. Pinochle is 10 a.m. to noon and Mahjong is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

New members are welcome to join the Macungie Town Beautification Committee. The committee meets 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Macungie Institute.

Macungie Borough Council has in-person public meetings at the Macungie Institute. The next meetings will be 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and Sept. 3 and 16.

The Macungie Park board of directors meeting is 7 p.m. Aug. 13 in the downstairs of Macungie Memorial Hall.
We recently disassembled our swing set and playhouse. After residing in our yard for more than 20 years, Matt and I were a little sad to say goodbye. On the other hand, Ben took one look at the backyard and said, “Oh, wow! It’s going to be so much easier to cut the grass!”
