Annual Vera Cruz Homecoming scheduled Aug. 18

Current and former Vera Cruz residents, their families, friends and those looking for a fun Sunday afternoon are welcome to visit the 72nd annual Vera Cruz Homecoming noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 18 at Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East.

Event highlights include entertainment by musical acts The Rehrig Brothers noon to 3 p.m. and Timewhys 5-8 p.m.

DJ Cesar Rosario, Toast of the Town, will broadcast live 3-5 p.m.

A cakewalk will be held 3:15 p.m. A food truck will be at the event and other food and beverages will be available.

Gardening enthusiasts may want to start their weekend fun a day earlier at the 2024 fall plant sale at The Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road. The sale runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 and continues 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18.

Shoppers can select from cold and frost tolerant vegetable, flower and herb plants grown at the farm.

The event also will feature two workshops.

“Season Extension in the Garden: Growing Fresh for Longer” will be offered 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 17. There is a cost and registration is required.

Participants will learn how to nurture cool weather crops from The Seed Farm Greenhouse Manager Hannah White and will leave with a “low tunnel” kit, organic carrot and spinach seeds and an abundance of tips.

Lizzy Beller, of Bubbly Hills Farm, will lead a bouquet-making workshop 12:30-1:30 p.m. Aug. 18. There is a cost and registration is required.

Participants will learn about different styles of bouquets and different tools used to create flower arrangements as well as techniques for starting seeds. Each participant will take home a wrapped bouquet.

Volunteers also are needed for the 22nd annual Lower Milford Fall Festival scheduled 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 28. The festival is held rain or shine on the campus of the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

According to the township website, volunteer opportunities include event set up, helping out with contests and lending a hand at the many activities for children.

Kit’s Interactive Theatre will visit the Southern Lehigh Library, the home library for Lower Milford Township residents, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 8 with a performance of “Pioneer Travel on the Oregon Trail (1863)” to close the Summer Fun Club program at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.

Pioneer Penny Pritchard will share stories of traveling in a covered wagon.

The Upper Milford Historical Society will host Lori Fegley at its monthly meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St.

Fegley will talk about the history of Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East, in the township.

The society is scheduled to host an open house 1-4 p.m. Aug. 18 at the township building. Visitors are welcome to visit the archives and browse the exhibits.

The Lower Milford Township board of supervisors regular monthly meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will next meet 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. There also is an online option. Visit the website www.uppermilford.net for details.
