LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Perfect day for frozen treat

St. John’s UCC holds ice cream social

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 575 Grape St., Fullerton, held an ice cream social and bingo fundraiser July 13 in the pavilion on the church campus. The weather was very warm and sunny, making an ice cream social a very good idea.

Drizzle Ice Cream, with locations in Schnecksville and Alburtis, served the frozen treat in a variety of flavors and toppings. Drizzle employees Ava Staub and Megan Cunningham cheerfully served the event attendees their choices in either a cup or a cone.

As the outside temperature rose, the ice cream consumption increased. One attendee was served a dark chocolate marshmallow ice cream in a cup with a peanut butter drizzle — a treat described as “out of this world.”

St. John’s UCC member Sharon Borgman, of Coplay, staffed the soda and water table. She said she was delighted to assist as a volunteer at the social.

Bill Castello was the bingo assistant, with church member Mike Borgman coordinating and calling the bingo games.

Steve Davis, St. John’s UCC pastor, got to work attracting more people to join the fun. Armed with a bright red umbrella and large decorative ice cream prop, he walked up and down the sidewalk, waving to passing motorists.

Castello joked Davis would stay out there “until he melts.”

In addition to ice cream, soda, water and baked goods, the event was filled with fellowship and friendship.
