Hokendauqua: Community forum to be held Aug. 4

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, 3005 S. Front St., will host a community forum on the war in Ukraine 6:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 4.

The event will include speakers Father Oleg Kravchenko, of Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Northampton, and Father Richard Jendras, of Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Allentown, who will talk about the people and nation of Ukraine since Russia began the war against Ukraine in February 2022, after invading and taking power over Crimea in 2014.

There will also be a time for prayer.

People of every church and community are invited to share our common connection as good, compassionate neighbors.

A backpack event for students in Whitehall-Coplay School District is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 10 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road. Kids can get a backpack and fill it with school supplies.

The church is looking for donations of backpacks and supplies. If you would like to contribute, call the church office at 610-435-0451.

Whitehall High School Classes of 1959, 1960 and 1961 will hold their second annual summer social 1-6 p.m. Aug. 17 at Jones Quigg American Legion Post 739, 3739 American Legion Drive. There is a small cost per person for registration to help cover expenses.

Food will be catered by Samuel Owens Restaurant and Bar. Soda, water and coffee will be available, and all alcoholic beverages must be purchased from the American Legion at the cash bar.

The committee is asking classmates who like to bake to donate desserts and is seeking anyone with memorabilia to bring them along to the event.

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua will hold a block party 3-7 p.m. Aug. 24.

Enjoy seeing fire trucks close up; activities led by both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; an Amazing (Race) obstacle course, facilitated by Jones Quigg American Legion Post 739, for junior and senior high youth; a refreshing slip and slide; relays for all ages; kickball games for all ages; refreshments; and more.

There is no charge, but donations will be accepted. If rain occurs, activities will be held indoors.

Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative free community meal 4-6 p.m. Sept. 1. The meal, for low-income Whitehall Township and Coplay Borough residents, is guaranteed for the first 100 guests.

Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association has announced registration is now open for fall baseball (T-ball, Grasshoppers, Biddy, Midgets and Knee-Hi, for ages 4-1/2 through 15) and softball (8U through 19U).

The leagues typically need team counts in early August, so it’s recommended you sign up as soon as possible. To register, visit hokeypark.com.
