Elmer S. Heiney

Parkland High School graduate

Elmer S. Heiney, 89, of Salisbury Township, died July 21, 2024, in his residence.

He was the widower of Catherine Joann (Heil) Heiney, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage until her death in September 2019.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Bessie Heiney Roth.

A 1952 graduate of Parkland High School, he was a letterman athlete in track.

He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the security division.

He was a member of the Lutheran congregation at Cedar Union Church, South Whitehall.

After serving in the military, he went to work at Merchants Bank and later for Mack Truck, retiring in 1985.

He then spent the next 34 years as a real estate agent before retiring in 2019.

While working in a local bank, he served as a Junior Achievement advisor.

He was co-founder of the former Parkland Area Jaycees where he served as president, was a state advisor and was honored to receive the Jaycee Senatorship with Junior Chamber, Trexlertown.

Also the co-founder and honorary member of Northwestern Jaycees, he was past president of the Orefield AA and coached basketball at North Parkland and Northwestern AA, where he was named Jaycee of the Year.

He also served many years as a director of the Parkland Alumni Club and chaired many of its golf tournaments.

He was past Scout Master of Troop 84 of Ziegels Union Church.

His survivors include sons Steven, and his wife, Cathy Close, of Largo, Fla., and Jon, and his wife, Lynn, of Allentown; brother Paul of Whitehall; granddaughter Amy; and three great-granddaughters.

He was predeceased by a brother, Donald.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at Cedar Church, 3419 Broadway, South Whitehall.

Calling hour will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Church Cemetery.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to support the Lehigh Valley Junior Golf Tour.
