Elmer S. Heiney

member, Cedar Union Church

Elmer S. Heiney, 89, of Salisbury Township, died July 21, 2024, in his residence. He was the husband of the late Catherine Joann (Heil) Heiney for 62 years until her death in September 2019. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Bessie Heiney Roth.

He was a 1952 graduate of Parkland High School, where he lettered in track.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army in the security division.

He was a member of the Lutheran congregation at Cedar Union Church, Allentown.

After serving in the military, he worked at Merchants Bank and later for Mack Trucks, retiring in 1985 and then spent the next 34 years as a real estate agent, retiring in 2019.

While working in a local bank, he served as a Junior Achievement adviser.

He was the co-founder of the former Parkland Area Jaycees where he served as president, was a state adviser and was honored to receive the Jaycee Senatorship with Junior Chamber in Trexlertown. He was also the co-founder and honorary member of the Northwestern Jaycees.

He was past president of the Orefield AA and coached basketball at North Parkland and Northwestern AA, where he was named Jaycee of the Year.

He served many years as a director of the Parkland Alumni Club and chaired many of their golf tournaments.

He was past scoutmaster of Troop 84 Ziegels Union Church.

He is survived by sons, Steven and his wife, Cathy Close, of Largo, Fla., Jon and his wife, Lynn, of Allentown; brother, Paul, of Whitehall; granddaughter, Amy; three great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald.

Contributions may be made to support the Lehigh Valley Junior Golf Tour payable to the Golf Association of the Lehigh Valley Foundation for the Elmer Heiney Memorial Fund, GALV Foundation, 2743 Saxon St., Allentown, 18103.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 2 at Cedar Church, 3419 Broadway, Allentown. A calling hour will begin 10 a.m. at the church and burial to follow at Cedar Church cemetery.

Arrangements were made by the Trexler Funeral Home, Inc., Allentown.
