Egypt/Cementon: Neighborhood yard sale is Aug. 9, 10

The Egypt neighborhood yard sale is set for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10 on Lehigh Street, Hoffman and Troxell drives and Bank Circle. The sale will be held rain or shine.

Reminder: The concert lineup at Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293, 5209 Springmill Road, will feature Mike Sherer Aug. 1, Mike Guldin and Rollin’ and Tumblin’ Aug. 2, Stage Devils Aug. 3 and The Castaways Aug. 9. Concerts begin 7 p.m.

The VFW also has a cookout set for 2-6 p.m. with musical entertainment by TKB Trio planned for 3-6 p.m., both Aug. 4. Bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.

Members attend concerts for free, but there is a cost for guests and nonmembers.

The VFW will also host a concert benefiting oligodendroglioma brain cancer research, featuring the Benny Band and Michael Sherer, 2-6 p.m. Aug. 18. There is an admission cost for members, nonmembers and guests.

Whitehall Township’s summer concert series finale will be held 6-9 p.m. Aug. 10 at Whitehall Parkway, 4689 S. Church St., with a concert by Steel Creek. Food will be available for purchase.

Whitehall Lions Club is partnering with Vision to Learn to provide free eye exams by appointment and glasses for children in need. The Vision to Learn mobile clinic will be at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road, Aug. 22.

Eligible children will receive an eye exam from a licensed eye doctor. If the exam reveals a need for glasses, the child will pick out glasses and frames. Further, if the child has been examined by an eye doctor within the past 12 months and has a valid prescription but has not yet selected glasses, Vision to Learn will assist the child in selecting frames and will order glasses with the provided prescription.

Registration for Egypt Memorial Park’s fall softball and T-ball is open now through Sept. 15.

The park’s T-ball program is for boys and girls ages 4-1/2 to 6. The softball program is for ages 5-18. The season runs Aug. 1-Oct. 31.

Visit egyptpark.org and click Online Sports Registration. There is a cost.

Whitehall Fire Department is looking for volunteers ages 14 and older to help with the annual Haunted Parkway. Volunteers are needed to act in haunted scenes, help build and maintain the attractions and design marketing materials and tickets.

Message the department through the Whitehall Fire Department Haunted Parkway Facebook page if you’d like to volunteer.
