Hornets pick up third summer league win

The Emmaus High School boys basketball team competed in its first offseason under new head coach Jerald Brown, who just took over the position following the 2023-24 winter season.

The Hornets experienced an up-and-down offseason in the Lehigh Valley Summer League.

The last two weeks of the regular season, Emmaus had three games. The Hornets began that stretch with a double-digit victory over Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opponent Dieruff, winning 63-41, on Tuesday, July 2, with Jack Csensits dropping in a team and game-high 18 to lead the way from Whitehall High School.

Last week, however, Emmaus dropped both of its games, each against conference foes. On Tuesday, July 9 the Hornets fell just short in a game against Northampton, losing 48-43, at Whitehall. Two nights later at Whitehall Middle School, Emmaus was on the wrong end of another five-point game, this time to Nazareth, 56-51.

Emmaus finished the summer 3-9 overall and will now look toward one final competition this summer, the A-town Throwdown event at Cedar Beach running from July 25-28.

“I’m proud of how the guys worked and continued to get better,” said Brown. “Obviously, we would’ve liked to have won a few more games, but we were in them and competitive, it just didn’t always fall our way.

“The guys will continue to get better this summer and fall and be ready to go for the season this winter.”
