Whitehall Township Public Library: Philadelphia history program is planned

The Philadelphia: A Revolutionary City program is set for 6 p.m. July 25. Eighteenth-century Philadelphia was a complex place where global trade brought new goods and new ideas to the people who became revolutionaries.

Follow one artifact — a punch bowl — on a virtual tour of the city, and find yourself in market stalls, coffeehouses, illegal taverns, churches and the halls of government.

Presented by the Museum of the American Revolution, this program is held on Zoom. Watch from a screen in the library or from home.

Registration is requested.

Kids and Teens Connect will be held 11 a.m. July 27. The Teen Advisory Board will lead kids through different activities including sidewalk chalk, pool noodle racing, a hula challenge and more.

This program is recommended for kids in pre-K through sixth grade. Light snacks will be provided.

No registration is required.

Find the monster in town in a fast-paced role-playing game. Teens in grades 9-12 and adults can collaborate to find the monster 6 p.m. July 30.

A Wings of Wonders: the Butterfly program is set for 6 p.m. July 31. Folk’s Butterfly Farm will bring in a collection of butterflies in different stages of their life cycles.

This program is open to all, and no registration is required.

A teen painting program, presented by Lehigh Valley Decorative Painters, will be held 9:15 a.m. Aug. 1. Teens are welcome to paint ostriches with LVDP.

This program is for teens in grades 6-12 only.

Registration is required; walk-ins will not be accepted.

Travel from the library and visit Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. This program will be presented virtually in the library 6 p.m. Aug. 1.

Learn about the active volcanoes within the park, as well as the geology, history and culture of the island.

Registration is requested.

Community heroes night is set for 5-7 p.m. Aug. 7. Some of our community heroes, including Whitehall Township’s police and fire departments, Cetronia Ambulance Corps and more will stop by to tell you about their jobs and show some of their equipment.

The library’s parking lot will be closed to attendee traffic and parking. Park at Whitehall High School and walk over to the library lot for the event.

This program is open to all, and no registration is required.

Kids can celebrate the end of the summer reading program with face painting, balloon art and a visit from Mini Moos 12:30-1:30 p.m. Aug. 10; games and snacks will be held noon-2 p.m. Kids can pick up grand prizes at this event.

Adults, celebrate your summer reading accomplishments 1 p.m. Aug. 15. Join us for book-related activities, prizes and snacks.

Plant-a-Row donation drop-offs continue 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays. The library will accept fresh produce to go to local families in need.

The library is open 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays through Saturdays.
