LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Township sponsors cool down event to provide heat relief

You probably heard the phrase over and over: “Everybody complains about the weather - but nobody does anything about it.”

Not true anymore. When the heat got too much to easily bear, Salisbury Township sponsored a “cool down” community event at a parking area at Salisbury High School.

Coordinator James Levernier, the township’s director of public works, requested engines from Eastern Salisbury Fire Department and Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company to provide the pumping capacity and the artificial rain was assured.

With ESFD’s multiuse rescue engine at one end of the parking area, and WSVFC’s aerial ladder truck at the other end, the area was blanketed with a refreshing spray 6-8 p.m. July 15.

The event was promoted on social media and WSVFC Chief Joshua Wells estimated “well over 100” youngsters and not-so-youngsters cavorting in the water.

Township police officers were on hand to greet those gathering and Patrol Officer Kyle Watson was “right out there with the kids” introducing his new K-9 partner, Echo.

Thank you, Salisbury.
