Musikfest, partners announce free bussing
The city and community partners announced at city hall July 10 this year’s Musikfest will feature free event shuttles to 14 locations between Northside and Southside.
LANTA’s new Enhanced Bus Service Blue and Green lines will be joined temporarily by another route – the Gold Line – for constant and easy travel between Bethlehem’s two downtowns during the country’s largest free music festival Aug. 2-11. Additionally, there will be a Purple Line for day passes transferring directly between the two main shuttle stops, north and south, and to remote parking sites.
Mayor William Reynolds said at city hall there are two goals; to simplify movement of the city’s tens of thousands of visitors during the 10-day event, and to ease typically congested traffic in the event areas. “Hopefully this gives us a bit of a road map for the future. We’re trying to be smarter about transportation. Where we can we’re going to help push people in the direction of sustainability and accessibility.”
LANTA Director of Planning and Scheduling AJ Jordan said the new buses are ADA accessible and linked to real time tracking through the LANTA smartphone application, available at lantabus.com/transit-app/. For more information on the buses, marking, and event areas, visit lantabus.com/ebs-bethlehem/.
The idea, Jordan said, is anyone parking remotely, even in Allentown or Easton, can purchase a $4 day pass and then bus around Bethlehem’s events all day for no additional cost and then return to their vehicle on the line they first boarded.
