Just days after the Northwestern Lehigh Firefighter Foundation’s Firefighter Appreciation Picnic, Lynn supervisors raised their annual donations to the Lynnport and New Tripoli fire companies to $8,000 each during their July 11 meeting.

Northwestern Rescue Squad will receive $3,000, Northwestern Recreation Commission will receive $5,000, with an additional $500 for Night in the Country.

In other matters, a handful of township residents raised concerns over the state of a home along Madison Street.

They pleaded with supervisors to address the issues of hoarding, safety and the state of disarray of the property with the owner.

In other matters, Acting Roadmaster Matt Henderson provided an update on road work.

He thanked Jerdon Construction for helping with the break room, which will be used by employees who must often work under harsh weather conditions.

Work is expected to be completed at the end of next month.

“Jerdon Construction donated 100 percent of the services,” Supervisor Ron Jerdon added for the record.

Jerdon also confirmed the new sign for Ontelaunee Park is currently under construction.

Lynn Township’s zoning officer is no longer with LTL Consulting, which provides the services to the township.

The township originally went to LTL Consulting when Keystone Consulting Engineers told supervisors it could not continue the service at the time.

After looking into different options, supervisors decided to terminate their agreement with LTL Consulting and go with Keystone in the interim with a fee schedule.

The Environmental Advisory Council’s request for a Bird Town Certification application was tabled as no member was present.

The idea was subject to a presentation in May.

A bill allowing solar energy systems, which provide energy solely to subscribers, is currently in the state Senate.

Supervisor Fritz Najarian led a discussion on the Solar Ordinance and the recommendation from the planning commission to allow this form of energy source where primary solar energy is available, with certain definitions.

Najarian said some townships have had tense discussions about allowing solar energy on what is farmland.

Township Solicitor Marc Fisher will work on a draft based on the recommendations of the planning commission to be discussed at a future meeting.
