Suspect charged in shooting death of Alburtis man

An Allentown man faces homicide charges after he allegedly shot a 33-year-old man, of Alburtis, during a dispute at a child’s birthday party in February in Allentown.

In a news release dated July 9, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan announced the arrest of Robert Gonzalez, 25, on charges of alleged criminal homicide, a felony of the first degree; possession of a firearm prohibited, a felony of the second degree and two charges of recklessly endangering another person.

According to court documents available online July 14, Gonzalez was denied bail and placed in Lehigh County Jail when arrested July 8.

Gonzalez is charged in the shooting death of Miguel Steven Dalmasi, according to authorities.

The news release and a criminal complaint filed by Allentown City Police detailed the incident in which Gonzalez is charged as follows:

At approximately 7:48 p.m. Feb. 17, police were dispatched for a 911 call related to a shooting at the intersection of East Walnut and South Dauphin streets in Allentown.

An injured person, later identified as Dalmasi, was in the intersection with wounds to his upper torso.

He was pronounced dead by first responders.

An autopsy determined Dalmasi died of multiple gunshot wounds and “the manner of death was ruled homicide,” according to the criminal complaint.

Allentown criminal investigators and a detective with the Lehigh County District Attorney’s office learned several men, described as wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts, arrived at a club near the intersection where Dalmasi was found shortly before the shooting.

A birthday party for a child was being held at the club at the time, according to the news release.

Witnesses told authorities Dalmasi and another man came out of the club to find out why the group of men came to the club.

The second man was punched in the head by one person “while one of the other actors pulled out a firearm and fired several shots, striking the victim several times in his upper torso,” according to the criminal complaint.

Dalmasi was the man who was shot, according to authorities.

The investigation revealed Gonzalez as the suspect who allegedly fired the gun and who had a dispute with another man who was at the social club.

Investigators collected 18 shell casings at the scene of the shooting, according to the criminal complaint.

Gonzalez, according to authorities, was convicted on felony drug charges in 2017.

Witnesses as well as surveillance video from area security cameras captured images of much of the incident, including images of a getaway vehicle.

Investigators also located ammunition and clothing in a residence known to be Gonzalez’s address.
