Pickleball courts open in Lower Macungie

The Lower Lehigh AARP will not meet in July or August. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Aug. 6 for lunch and a variety show by Jeff Kriek at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. The next meeting will be Sept. 3.

The Alburtis seniors will meet noon Aug. 21 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie pool hours are noon to 8 p.m. through July 31. Hours for August are noon to 7 p.m. Adult lap swim will be available 9-10 a.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings. Preregistration is required. The pool will close 3 p.m. July 17 for Silver Champs. Randy Ritter will perform acoustic rock 2-4 p.m. July 27. There will be beach blanket bingo 6-8 p.m. July 30; the rain date is July 31. Swim with a mermaid and visit Captain Jack Swallow 1-3 p.m. Aug. 11. Swim lessons are also available.

Summer concerts are back! Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods will perform 50s music 6-8:30 p.m. July 20; Rustix will perform classic rock 6-8 p.m. July 26; family movie night 8 p.m. Aug. 9 and Island Time will perform Jimmy Buffet style music 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

Lower Macungie Township has partnered with Upper Macungie Township to offer memberships to the Splash Park, 360 Grange Road, Allentown.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

The new outdoor pickleball courts at the Lower Macungie Township complex are now open and available on a first come, first served basis.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

The community center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Staff will be available by phone during that time at 610-966-6924. Updates will also be posted on Facebook and www.lowermac.com.

Yard waste center hours through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day on the weeks of July 22, Aug. 5 and 19.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Think Like a Superhero! for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be offered 6 p.m. July 18.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. July 18 and Aug. 8 to discuss books and programs. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Sunny Day Story time will be held 10-10:30 a.m. July 24, 31 and Aug. 7 for children ages 2-5 years old. This story time will be held outdoors; in case of inclement weather, it will move indoors with a limited number of spaces available.

Toddler sign language story time for children ages 2-4 years old will be held weekly 10-10:30 a.m. July 18, 25 and Aug. 1, 8 and 15. The story time will include reading fun stories and learning about American Sign Language from a deaf librarian.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 19. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Superhero Con for adults will be held noon to 1:30 p.m. July 20. Adults are invited to bring their superhero themed collectibles, comic books and more and dress up as their favorite characters. Spider-Man and Wonder Woman will make an appearance.

A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. July 18 to discuss “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. The book for Aug. 15 is “Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

There will be a teen movie night for grades 6-12 6-7:30 p.m. July 22.

Percy Jackson’s Camp Half-Blood for grades 3-12 will be offered 11 a.m. to noon. There will be crafts, activities and games.

There will be sensory coloring and crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon July 23 and Aug. 27.

Legends of the Hidden Temple Game for all ages will be held 6-8 p.m. July 24.

Norse Myths Book Club for grades 3-5 and teens will meet 4-5 p.m. July 26.

There will be a jigsaw puzzle tournament for grades 6 to adult 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27.

Recipe for Murder: Dessert and Recipe Swap for adults will be held 10 a.m. to noon July 29.

The Animé Club for grades 6-12 will meet 6-7 p.m. July 30.

Masterpiece Focus: Father Brown vs. Grantchester Men of the Cloth Murder & Mystery for adults will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. July 30.

Crack the Code! for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be held 6-7 p.m. Aug. 1.

A bus trip – A Day in Hyde Park: Vanberbilt Mansion Tour and Culinary Institute Luncheon – will take place Aug. 2.

“Claw” into Macungie’s History for kindergarten through fifth grade will be held 6-7 p.m. Aug. 5.
