George Gregory Waltman

George Gregory Waltman, 39, died on June 8, 2024, in Northport, N.Y. Hospice.

For 25 years, he fought valiantly against cancer.

The son of the legendary auto racer, the late George S. Waltman and Teresa Waltman, he is survived by his half siblings Christopher Waltman and spouse, Erin, of Fogelsville; and siblings Lisa Munyon of Maryland, Tara Waltman of New York, and Peter Waltman of England.

Raised in Hurley, N.Y., George, nicknamed Greg, graduated from Kingston High School, magna cum laude.

During his senior year, he was nominated to deliver the keynote address to his graduating class.

He received the prestigious lifetime membership for Wyltwick Golf and Country Club via Make A Wish Foundation.

He excelled in athletics and played on his high school golf, basketball and track teams.

He was a gifted golfer.

He was granted a full scholarship to Loyola University in Maryland and Loyola’s Crew team letter for athletic excellence in his freshman year.

During his free time, he would always visit the Pediatric Cancer Centers at Johns Hopkins Hospital, North Shore University Hospital and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

He would spend endless hours in hospital amusing “his kids” and let them “shine.”

Professionally, he was as semi pro golfer, and this enabled him to travel extensively in the United States, South America, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Asia.

He was a young golfing star.

His life consisted of endless ordeals and adventures and these experiences are living testaments of God’s gifts of human resilience and kindness.

God’s gifts reigned supreme in his brilliantly brief life. He received goodness and gave goodness.

His service will be private.
