Moore supervisors OK study of new township building
At the Moore Township Board of Supervisors meeting July 2, the board discussed and approved $13,500 for a feasibility study for options that include the possibility of constructing a new municipal building. Township leaders have been talking about the renovation of the current building or constructing a new building for about two years.
Former township Manager Nicholas Steiner initiated discussions with the board about gathering information for a prospective renovation or a replacement. At that time, Steiner felt the building had outlived its safe operation because of needed repairs.
The renovation plans discussed at earlier meetings were considered costly as the current building needs numerous, expensive repairs. It was decided to consider all options moving forward.
In other business, Moore Township Police Chief Gary West reported there were 335 calls to the department in June, resulting in one criminal mischief arrest, two impaired driving arrests and an arrest for fleeing the police.
The fire and ambulance report indicated there were 40 fire calls, with one fire, during June. There were 105 ambulance calls during the month.
An Eagle Scout project proposed by Joshua Holub was approved to repair the historic Edelman School floor. The development of plans and the refurbishing of the Edelman School, the last remaining one-room schoolhouse in Moore Township, is a joint project of the township and its historical commission.
The school has been an item of discussion among supervisors because of the length of time involved renovating the small school and the costs of the renovations.
