Kian Deater, 21, of Bethlehem, has been convicted of numerous crimes related to a shooting incident in Catasauqua on Father’s Day 2022.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan in a statement said around 6:45 p.m. on June 19 of that year, police responded to reports of shots fired at the playground on American Street. Deater was observed on surveillance footage firing at a car near the basketball court. People were using the court at the time, and there were adults and children in the park. Deater also fired at people as they fled.

Deater was arrested minutes later and the pistol was recovered in the park. He was already on parole for an earlier shooting in Emmaus in 2019.

Deater is scheduled for sentencing in September, facing as much as 51 years for various assault and firearms felonies.
