Purina delivers $25,000 to enhance service to pets

Team members from Purina in Allentown recently presented a $25,000 donation to The Center for Animal Health and Welfare to help fund the installation of a tiny home on site, allowing the organization to have a dedicated space to hold events, clinics and training.

The Center for Animal Health and Welfare is a haven for displaced animals, providing lifesaving veterinary treatment and care to cats and dogs at the shelter, according to the news release.

The addition of a tiny home allows the organization to have dedicated space for adoption events, vaccination clinics and necessary shelter training, while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for the animals in their care.

The donation from Purina adds a few hundred square feet on the property, increasing their ability to service animals and the community.

“We are so grateful to have Purina here in our community as an advocate for animal health and welfare,” Rose LoPiccolo, executive director of The Center for Animal Health and Welfare said. “Our organization is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of animals and their adopters, and this donation allows us to further that cause in a significant way.”

The center serves hundreds of cats and dogs annually and strives to pair each animal that enters its doors with a loving home.

They also engage the community, offering a foster program for socialization or for animals with special medical needs, so that all animals are adoption-ready after spending time with their foster families.

The donation is being delivered through the Purina Trust Fund, recognizing community partners who work to positively impact Purina’s operating communities.

“Purina aims to support critical programs and partners in the communities we call home,” Ryan Hammonds, Purina factory manager in Allentown said.

“The Center for Animal Health and Welfare is a vital organization in the Lehigh Valley, and it’s an honor to support their work.”

To further its support, several members of Purina’s Allentown team recently renovated and refreshed The Center’s cat socialization room, updating the room’s look and feel with fresh paint, new cat houses, and an updated sitting area for visitors.

Purina Allentown also regularly makes product donations to the organization and other reputable shelters across the Lehigh Valley.

In 2023, the facility delivered more than 27,500 cases of pet food, largely consisting of Friskies and Pro Plan products.

In the last five years, Purina has contributed more than $150 million to organizations focused on making a difference for pets, people and the planet.

Purina has operated in Allentown since 1958 and today employs more than 560 local associates.
