Are you looking for something educational to do with your children this summer? Right here in Salisbury Township is the Museum of Indian Culture, 2825 Fish Hatchery Road. You can learn about the history and culture of Native Americans native to the Lehigh Valley, especially the Lenape Indians. The museum, partnering with the Allentown Parks and Recreation Department, is currently in the planning process of recreating an entire Lenape Village, set to open in the fall of 2025.
You can also learn more about and walk the Lenape Trail at the Little Lehigh Parkway. The museum has partnered with PBS 39 to encourage families to walk the trail and scan the QR codes set up on the trail. Each code will give you little tidbits of information and activities to do as you walk. Museum summer hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday. For more information visit www.museumofindianculture.org.
Don’t forget to check out all the activities the Allentown Public Library has to offer this summer. Some of the upcoming events include Make a Song with Danny Joseph from Growing Through Music 2 p.m. July 20. How about Take a Tromp through the Swamp? This is a music program for the entire family 2 p.m. July 25.
Lastly, check out Shakespeare for Kids 11 a.m. July 26. This is an interactive program that includes puppets and music. For more information and directions to register, visit www.allentownpl.org.
Yard waste drop-offs are open. The Franko site will be open July 11, 13 and 22. Devonshire will be open July 15, 18 and 20. As always, hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
