North Whitehall Twp supervisors reject Strawberry Acres plan

By MICHAEL HIRSCH

Special to The Press

The Strawberry Acres development at 5077 Overlook Road was discussed at the North Whitehall supervisors’ June 3 meeting.

The applicant submitted a revised plan to address the board’s concerns about the vertical walls in the stormwater basins.

The revised plan, however, was incomplete and not accepted by supervisors.

Peter Lehr, the applicant’s attorney, argued the plan should not be denied because they are still working on it and will submit a complete plan soon.

The board considered denying the current plan and allowing the applicant to submit a new plan.

Township planning commission member Rich Semmel said he was concerned the applicant could take legal action regarding the vertical retaining walls.

“Even if they won a lawsuit regarding the walls, the township might still have to deal with them, and this project has been ongoing for over 10 years, and further delays are undesirable,” he said.

Semmel suggested setting a final deadline (October meeting) for the developer to submit an acceptable plan without vertical walls.

After discussion, the board denied the submitted Strawberry Acres Preliminary Plan.

In other matters, board Secretary Jess Koenig said the date of the July supervisors meeting has been changed to July 8.

As of June 24, township administration staff will be occupying the temporary municipal office at 4110 Independence Drive, Suite 100 for the duration of the township building renovation.

For the duration of the township building renovation, public meetings will be moved to temporary locations.

Board of Supervisors, zoning hearing board and planning commission meetings will be held at the Schnecksville Fire Company in the banquet hall,

Recreation board, and farmland preservation and open space board meetings will be held at the Neffs Fire Company.

All meetings remain scheduled for their previously advertised dates and times.
