LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Walking tour of Churchview Park, Upper Milford Township, scheduled July 15

Summer is in high gear and this may be a good time to take in an activity or two with fellow township residents and other neighbors.

Join the Upper Milford Township Milford Recreation Commission at its monthly meeting 7 p.m. July 15 at Churchview Park, Kohler Road, Zionsville.

The meeting will include a walking tour and those attending will learn what grows and lives in the meadow and how the meadow helps conserve habitat and water.

On July 25 the Upper Milford Historical Society is scheduled to host its annual picnic for society members and their guests. This year’s event will be held at Domaine Pterion Vineyard and Winery, Macungie. Visit the historical society’s website for details.

On July 10, magician Abby London will lead a beginner’s balloon twisting workshop for kids at the Southern Lehigh Library, the home library for Lower Milford Township residents, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley. Participants will meet 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and the workshop is designed for children 7 years and older.

Also July 10 the library will screen the 1987 family movie classic “The Princess Bride.” The event starts 6:15 p.m.

Among my favorite lines from this must-see film is “Have you ever considered piracy? You’d make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts.”

“Tail Wagging Readers” will be held 11 a.m. to noon July 13. Young readers will have the chance to read their favorite book to a therapy dog.

For details and/or to register for these and other library events, visit the library website at solehipl.org or the library front desk.

While you have your calendar nearby, here are a few dates you may want to save.

Pencil in Sept. 28 for the 22nd annual Lower Milford Fall Festival at the Lower Milford Township building. The event traditionally includes vendors, craft demonstrations, activities for children, wagon rides and other fun stuff to do. Visit the township website, lowermilford.org, for details on the festival as well as information on how to volunteer, always a great way to see the festival and meet new people.

Garden enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the fall plant sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 17 and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18 at The Seed Farm, 5854 Vera Cruz Road. The sale, held rain or shine, features cold and frost tolerant vegetable and herb plants organically grown at the farm. Volunteer opportunities for before and during the sale are available.

Oct. 5 is another date worth saving. The Seed Farm’s Farm-to-Table Dinner is scheduled 4-7 p.m. in the farm’s greenhouse at sunset. Diners will enjoy a four-course dinner curated by vegan specialists Butterhead Kitchen, Bethlehem Township, cocktails from Eight Oaks distillery, New Tripoli and music performances. There is a cost for tickets and proceeds benefit programs at the farm. Visit the website theseedfarm.org for details.

Lastly, please note township offices in Lower and Upper Milford are closed July 4.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will not meet July 4. The board usually meets the first and third Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. July 18 in the township building, 5671 Chestnut St.

The Lower Milford Township Board of Supervisors will next meet 6:30 p.m. July 18 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.
