Hanover Twp. selects bid for road program

At its June 19 meeting, Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council reviewed and selected the bid from H&K Group to complete the road program for Catasauqua Road, Irving Street and Marcon Boulevard.

The accepted bid, pending solicitor and public works director review, was $1,537,211.20.

H&K Group, Haines and Kibblehouse Inc. is located in Skippack with a large group of affiliated companies in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. It provides heavy civil construction, infrastructure and demolition services. H&K is dedicated to remaining an industry leader in the heavy construction business sector.

The engineer’s report included updates on projects. The Postal Road stormwater project was recently completed, and the Allendale project has been delayed due to the recent excessive heat. The Marcon Boulevard project is expected to begin in early July. The Troxell Street project experienced a contractor’s issue; however, the problem was expected to be repaired within the week.

Township Manager Melissa Wehr noted the staff is working on the 2025 capital budget and requested several meetings with council and office staff to work through the budget draft. Council decided to hold meetings Aug. 6, 7 and 8.

Wehr also noted the township’s summer help has been hired to work through mid-August.

Council voted to approve the authorization for the set aside agreement with Guardian Storage, 1890 Airport Road, be reduced from $480,659.30 to $65,544.45, releasing $415,114.85 and to begin an 18-month maintenance security of $65,544.45 providing the May 15 as-built utility letter has been satisfactorily addressed.

Council also granted authorization for the township to participate in the urban county for grant programs funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The approval vote to remain in the program is done every three years. Wehr recommended the township remain in the program, as there is no cost to the township.

The next council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. July 17 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.
