Celebrate July 4 at Macungie Memorial Park

Volunteers are needed to help with events at Macungie Memorial Park. The park is self-supporting and depends on events and donations to operate. Refreshment stand help is needed for upcoming park events. Volunteers do not need to be Macungie residents. For more information, call the park office at 610-966-4289.

Grace Lutheran Church, 28 W. Main St., will offer a free takeout community meal 4-5:30 p.m. July 12. Follow the signs for pickup.

Grace Lutheran Church holds a weekly free food distribution 2-4 p.m. every Wednesday in July – July 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 for East Penn School District residents. Signs will be posted with directions for parking and pickup.

The Macungie Farmers Market is open 4-7 p.m. every Thursday on Lumber Street, just off Main Street, Macungie.

There will be Food Trucks in the Park 5-8 p.m. July 3, 10, 17, 24 and Aug. 7 at Macungie Memorial Park.

Macungie Park presents a Fourth of July celebration 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4 at Macungie Memorial Park. There will be cornhole, a duck race, a kids’ parade, moonbounce, dime toss, carnival games, a cake walk, hot dogs and lemonade. Tickets for the duck race are sold at Macungie Park Pool.

There will be a Backyard Vendor Fair 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 13 at Macungie Memorial Park.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon July 17 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

There will be a Cruise Night 3 p.m. July 20 at Macungie Memorial Park. Vehicles will start arriving 2 p.m. and the DJ starts 4 p.m. Refreshments are available. For more information, call 610-966-4289.

The 61st annual Das Awkscht Fescht, one of the country’s largest antique and classic car shows, will take place Aug. 2-4 at Macungie Memorial Park. The featured car this year is the Ford Mustang. There will also be kids entertainment and activities, including a bouncy house, jugglers, magicians and petting zoo. Gates open 6 a.m. for walk-ins and show cars enter after 7:30 a.m. Juried arts and crafts vendors will be open noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 4; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 6. The flea market remains open until dusk. Musical entertainment continues until 10:30 p.m. Aug. 2; until 10 p.m. Aug. 3 and until 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4. Food will be available for purchase. There will also be an Outdoor Toy Town show Aug. 2 and 3 along Lumber Street, just off Main Street.

Macungie Park Pool is open; weekday hours are noon to 8 p.m.; weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Toddler time is 11 a.m. to noon weekdays. The pool will close for a swim meet 5 p.m. July 8. Swim lessons are available. Pool visitors must park outside the park grounds during Das Awkscht Fescht Aug. 1-4. More information is available at www.MacungiePark.com.

The Macungie Institute will continue to offer free weekly Pinochle and Mahjong Wednesdays. Pinochle is 10 a.m. to noon and Mahjong is 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Zumba with Rashida is offered 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Mondays and 2-3 p.m. Tuesdays. New members are welcome to join the Macungie Town Beautification Committee. The committee meets 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Macungie Institute.

Macungie Borough Council has in-person public meetings at the Macungie Institute. The next meetings will be 7:30 p.m. July 15 and Aug. 5.
