Trojans win Bash at the Beach Tournament

After a very successful winter varsity season, the Parkland boys basketball has continued that positive momentum into the summer as it’s won five of its first six games in the Lehigh Valley Summer League. The Trojans took home the trophy at last weekend’s Bash at the Beach at Whitehall High School. The Trojans defeated Berks Catholic 40-33 in the final Sunday night at Whitehall to win their first Bash title since 2021 and ended the weekend 5-0. Sophomore Blake Nassry led the way with 11 points and was voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. “It feels really good to win another championship,” Nassry said. “It feels like all of the hard work we’ve put in the last few weeks has paid off. Everyone stepped up in this tournament. We had guys coming off the bench who really played well.” Parkland won all five of its games over the weekend, including three on championship Sunday. The Trojans did not have to play the first two nights and were off until Saturday morning when their first game was against conference foe Central Catholic. They came out victorious 50-34 behind a game-high 16 points from Scott Bauer. Later that day, they beat Hazleton 54-44 with Nassry dropping 20 points. In the first game of the day Sunday, Parkland earned another double-digit victory, 54-39 over Bangor out of the Colonial League. Nassry tallied 12 points. Then, in the winners bracket final, the Trojans beat the Saint Bernards for the first time, 51-45, with TJ Lawrence netting 14 points. Bauer and Lawrence joined Nassry on the all-tournament team. Jude Ruisch won the sixth-man award. “We had multiple guys ready to score,” said assistant coach and acting head coach Austin Beidelman. “TJ Lawrence played well today and Blake played really well all weekend. Scottie also played well. The MVP award could have gone to any one of those guys. But Blake got the MVP and the other two got all-tournament team and that’s a credit to them. All three are really good players.” Parkland is back in action in the LV summer league this week.
