Emmaus still searching for season’s first win

It’s been a rough start to the season for the Emmaus Legion baseball team.

The first seven games have all gone into the loss column with the team being outscored 90-13. As a team, Emmaus is batting just .196 with a 12.28 ERA.

The team put together its best offensive output of the season in a recent 12-5 loss to South Parkland as Cole Killino, Dennis Holland and Logan Derr each collected two hits in the game as part of a 10-hit attack. They also stole six bases to boost the offense.

This week opened with Southern Lehigh using an eight-run second inning for a 14-2 win.

Emmaus had battled from behind to take 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first as two errors and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Derr and Tyler Harris both walked to plate runs before Southern Lehigh got out of the jam.

In the second, Southern Lehigh saw 10 of the first 11 batters reach base to give Southern Lehigh a 9-2 advantage. Four more runs crossed the plate for Southern Lehigh in the third and they added an extra run in the fifth to get the win.

Holland leads the team in batting with a .400 average through the first seven games of the season and also leads Emmaus in RBI with three. Chase Simmons (.300), Killino (.273), Ben Lichtenberger (.273) and Derr (.267) are among the team leaders in batting.

Davin Rompila leads the team with 10 1/3 innings pitched across two starts and three relief appearances. Lichtenberger has seven innings pitched and Kaden Zacharda has 6 1/3 innings in the books for Emmaus.

Emmaus gets a little time off on the schedule before playing four days in a row starting with a game at Whitehall (2-1) on Monday, followed by games against North Parkland (3-3), Northern Valley (4-3) and South Parkland (6-0).
