Buffaloes’ win streak halted by rival Trojans

North Parkland put together a three-game winning streak only to have its rivals from the south snap it by sweeping both ends of a doubleheader. North Parkland is 3-3 to open the season and stands three games behind South Parkland (6-0) for the top spot in the Lehigh Valley Legion Baseball League. Offense has not been an issue for the Buffaloes. As a team, North Parkland is batting .290, but its pitching has been suspect with a team ERA of 8.40 through the first six games of the season. Aiden Anderson is hitting .600 and Andrew Beers is batting .400 with each hitter collecting 10 at-bats through four games played. Among the players who have appeared in every game, Tsubasa Magota leads the hit parade with a .500 (7-14) average and leads the team with nine runs scored, while Chase Whitaker is batting .385 (5-13) and also leads the team with four doubles. Peyton Scherff has also played in all six games and is hitting .313 (5-16) for North Parkland. The team leader in RBIs is Nate Unger, who has knocked in five runs for the Buffaloes, with Leo Dauberman on his heels with four RBI. On the mound, Magota, Unger, and Dauberman have all won games for North Parkland with Unger leading the team in innings pitched with seven over two appearances. Among pitchers with multiple outings, Unger has the lowest ERA at 6.00. One problem has been command with the pitching staff walking 35 batters and striking out 42. In their most recent win, which came against Northern Valley, Beers, Gavin Mohry, Whittaker, and Anderson all collected two hits in the 10-7 victory. Zach Smith drove in two runs, while Scherff and Mohry both scored twice. Dauberman got the start and pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win, striking out seven batters. North Parkland held a 10-3 lead coming into the bottom of the seventh, but the Chargers scored four runs before Whittaker came on to get the final out and record the save. North Parkland is at Southern Lehigh Thursday and will host Emmaus and Northern Valley next week.
