Freedom hoops pushes through to Sunday action

Freedom made another deep run in the Cedar Beach Basketball Showcase over the weekend.

The Pates reached Sunday’s final day of action, but were eliminated Sunday afternoon by Nazareth 70-43 at Whitehall High School.

The Pates went 3-2 in the 20-team tournament, picking up a 45-37 win over Northampton on Thursday, but then falling to Bangor 41-32 on Saturday morning.

They bounced back with two straight wins to advance to Sunday, beating Daniel Boone 82-53 and holding off Hazleton 61-50 before being eliminated by Nazareth.

Liberty was ousted on Saturday with a 69-40 loss to Daniel Boone to finish 1-2 in the event.

The Hurricanes knocked off Phillipsburg 56-49 in their first game, but then lost in double overtime to Whitehall 61-58 Saturday to put them in the losers bracket where they ultimately were bounced from action by Daniel Boone.

Parkland came home with the team title in the big school division, knocking off Berks Catholic 40-33 and Holy Cross won the small school division with a 57-40 victory over Milton Hershey.
