Robert J. George Jr., 94, of Whitehall, died June 17, 2024, at home. He was the husband of the late Lillian M. (Dwyer) George.
Born in Avoca, he was the son of the late Robert and Theresa (Pernot) George.
He was a 1947 graduate of Avoca High School. He graduated from Alvernia University in 1981 with a criminal justice degree.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
He worked a number of jobs before joining the U.S. Postal Service, where he held many positions until his retirement. He and his wife started a bus company - Bob’s Lehigh Valley American - in 1983, which they owned until he retired in 2003.
He held positions on Whitehall Township Civil Service Board, Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners and Whitehall-Coplay School Board.
He is survived by two brothers, Eugene and Paul; four sons, Robert III and wife Agnes of South Whitehall Township, David and wife Nadine of Schnecksville, Ronald and wife Lisa of Whitehall and Kevin and wife Sherry of Northampton; six grandchildren, Jessica Cruz and husband Fred, Lauren Hnat and companion Bill Stankavish, Kristy, Colleen Kravelick and husband Andrew, Sean and wife Bethany and Kyle and fiancee Lauren Gabryluk; and seven great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kaylin, Chase, Billy, Bobby, Hannah and Tilian.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Patricia and Sally.
